Guided Tours with BCycle
In 2023 BCycle was facing some very serious competition from Lyft, Uber, and other large players in the ride share industry. The company needed a way to increase revenue without going toe-to-toe with such heavy hitters.
Our suggestion:
App-Guided Tours
Why guided tours?
As part of the Trek brand family BCycle could leverage some unique assets.
BCycle - An existing fleet of e-bikes already in cities with active tourism.
Trek Ride Club - A ride companion app that would be perfect for daytrip explorers looking to use their own bike.
Trek Travel - Experts in bike tourism experiences.
Great Rides - An expansive collection of locally curated rides covering all regions of the United States.
Retail locations - Brick and motor locations capable of maintenance, support, and local insight.

The opportunity:
See some sights. Save some cash.
1 to 4-hour app-guided bike tours for $5 to $25 per person
How would this work in reality?
My colleague and I mocked up a test experience with two different models of interaction:
BCycle - Use the existing infrastructure
BYOB - Bring Your Own Bike
Even using a Figma proto with links to Google Maps routes felt quite promising. We proved that as long as the concept stuck to the basics it should have legs.
